The Architecture of Stillness: De-accessioning the Image

There is a specific frequency that returns to the North Shore in the first week of January. Outside, the Atlantic wind rattles the original sashes of this former Finishing School; inside, a different kind of "finishing" is taking place. For the last month, our home has been performing. It has been draped in the festive maximalism of the holidays—a necessary riot of greenery and light. But this week, the performance ended. We began the process of De-accessioning the Image.

Silence is not stasis.
While we have silenced the common areas to hear the house’s bones, we have simultaneously begun a “re-drafting” in our indoor space.
— Book of Shadows

As we moved past the peak of the Super Wolf Moon in Cancer, the air within our home settled into a new, architectural quiet. This week demanded a deliberate pause; it was a period where the new year’s version of the self began to take form as we re-aligned with the archetypal signatures of our space. We are treating the ritual shedding of festive layers as a vital step in the process of creating a new Total Work of Art (Gesamtkunstwerk), one that honors the stark beauty of the current season.
